Duncaster Moves to More Efficient Energy Alternatives

Duncaster CCRC - Tuesday, March 07, 2017

BLOOMFIELD, CT, Mar. 7, 2017 – Businesses across the country and around the world are continually working towards finding ways to become more energy efficient. For Duncaster, 2017 will be the year for big moves towards energy efficient alternatives.

Recently, Duncaster took another step in a series of ongoing green initiatives that began back in 2007. In order to continue their efforts, they capitalized on an Eversource initiative to update interior lighting to LED lighting.

Green InitiativesLou DeSario, Vice President of Operations at Duncaster has been spearheading Duncaster’s energy saving initiatives. “We see the lighting as one more step in our efforts to gain more energy efficiency and save the planet’s resources,” he said. “These new lights will save us 4,471,114 kilowatt hours, which will result in eliminating approximately 4,800,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from our atmosphere. Duncaster’s investments in the project have a less-than-one-year return on investment. This will result in an estimated annual energy savings of $118,778. By reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other harmful environmental pollutants, this project will also help reduce air pollution and improve air quality in Connecticut and the Northeast region.”

Duncaster’s next energy saving project will be the installation of solar voltaic panels on the roofs of various buildings as well as on carports and garages. These panels will use solar energy to produce electricity. This initiative will reduce the amount of energy the community uses, save money and produce renewable energy that is better for the environment than traditional practices. For this project Duncaster is working with the Connecticut Green Bank.

Duncaster is no stranger to conservation initiatives. Their efforts have been recognized and awarded several times in recent years. In 2010 they received Hartford Business Journal’s Energy Conservation Award. Duncaster also received a National Energy Efficiency Award in 2007 from Energy Star.

“Duncaster is hoping to set an example for other businesses in the area about the positive impacts of conserving energy for businesses over time,” says DeSario. “My advice to other businesses is that this is good business. I would urge them to get in touch with their energy suppliers to find out about the incentives they offer for energy savings measures. We encourage other businesses to board the conservation train and to educate themselves about what is available for efficiency and incentives,” DeSario concludes.
