Duncaster’s March 14 World Affairs Discussion to Focus on Friction Between the US and Asia in the South China Sea

Duncaster CCRC - Thursday, March 09, 2017

BLOOMFIELD, CT, Mar. 9 2017 – The possibility of a conflict in the South China Sea will be the subject of the March 14 World Affairs Series discussion. The meeting will be held at Duncaster from 10:30 a.m. to noon. This meeting is free to the public with pre-registration.

South China Sea“The South China Sea could very well be the scene of some real troubles for the US and the rest of the world,” says World Affairs Program Moderator, Herb Hershenson. “The situation is heating up because of the current administration’s attitude towards East Asia following its withdrawal from the TPP. Six nations, China, Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, The Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam claim jurisdiction over parts of the South China Sea. Some see the situation causing some movement by neighboring countries such as Vietnam towards alliances with China. Meanwhile, friction between China and the U.S., as well as the many other points of contention in the South China Sea, makes it an area with great potential for future conflict. We expect these issues to spark some really interesting conversation.”

The discussion is part of Duncaster’s World Affairs Series, which is presented to the community by the residents of Duncaster on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month. Participants include local citizens and Duncaster residents.

Attendance is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required. To register, contact Fran Kent at (860) 380-5006 or
