Book Discussion - The Price of Survival

Duncaster CCRC - Thursday, March 28, 2019

BLOOMFIELD, CT, March 28, 2019 – Join Duncaster at 4:00pm on April 16 for a powerful author talk given by Irene Levin Berman. The program is free with advance registration by calling 860-380-5006. Irene will discuss her new book, The Price of Survival: Marcus Levin, Norwegian Holocaust Humanitarian. This is Irene’s third book featuring the history and stories of Jews in Norway, focused on her own extended family, before, during, and after the German invasion and occupation of Berman’s homeland.

Irene BermanIn her newest book, Price for Survival, Berman goes deeper into the World War II experience in Norway and fleshes out the heroic work that her father did in Sweden to help Jews escape the Holocaust. It is heartwarming to learn about the remarkable actions of people like Irene’s father who saved so many innocent people from the Holocaust. You don’t have to know Norway or its history to be enlightened by Irene’s story. Berman presents her father as man on a mission, focused on restoring decency to the lives of Jews who had been dehumanized, denied, and nearly destroyed.

Those who appreciate a hero’s journey will find here an unforgettable story. Berman’s work incorporates populations, numbers, and dates, recounts history and heroics, and features several archival photos from her family collection. The extensive information may take a reader’s breath away and should lead to astonishment that these facts are not more widely known. All three of Irene’s books: We Are Going to Pick Potatoes, Norway Wasn’t Too Small, and The Price of Survival will be available for purchase at the author talk. Light refreshments will be served.
