Duncaster to Feature Guyanese Visual Artist in September

Duncaster CCRC - Monday, August 07, 2017

BLOOMFIELD, CT, Aug. 7, 2017 – The paintings of local artist Stanwycke Cromwell will be displayed at the Duncaster Art Gallery during the month of September. There will be an opening reception held on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. “Mindscapes in Color” will be displayed until Friday, Sept. 29. The viewing hours for the exhibit are weekdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cromwell Artist Work Moon GazerCromwell, a Guyanese born artist, has spent most of his adult life in the United States. His focus for his art draws from the striking exotic physical and aesthetic differences between the cultures of his homeland and the U.S. He is fascinated with intimate color details that serve as footnotes for his art making.

He is also an adjunct art professor at Capital Community College which provides him with another landscape full of saturated colors from which to draw images. Through self-portraits, both autobiographical and mythical mirrors, Cromwell reflects on what he remembers as a child in Guyana. His imagination dismantles African stereo-types and dogmas, while including cultural and religious affiliations from his own life.

Attendance for the opening reception on Sept. 10 is free and open to the public; however, advanced registration is required. For more information or to make a reservation to attend the opening reception, contact Shelly Lombardo at sLombardo@Duncaster.org or 860-380-5006.
